Chitungwiza General Hospital has set up a team of specialist doctors who will conduct an operation on 16 year old Bridget Zireni who has developed an unusual condition of a swollen stomach.

The plight of Bridget was broadcast on ZBC News earlier this week.

Following the broadcast of the story of Bridget who suffers from an unusual condition of a swollen stomach, a number of good Samaritans have expressed their desire to help her.

Chitungwiza General Hospital chief executive officer Dr Obadiah Moyo said his hospital has set up a team of specialist doctors who will conduct an operation on Bridget for free.

Dr Moyo said the hospital has conducted successful operations on patients who had similar conditions and is confident that the procedure will be a success.

After being moved from one hospital to another due to financial challenges, Bridget has regained confidence and her hope is to go back to school.

The condition of Bridget started in 2015 and the family has been knocking doors at hospitals in Manicaland Province but there was no joy as the authorities demanded cash up front.

The latest development is an indication of the willingness by Chitungwiza General Hospital in fulfilling the thrust of the new government of reaching out to the disadvantaged communities.
