The newly elected Hospitality Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) executive board says it is seized with policy and regulatory issues affecting the performance of the hospitality sector as it seeks to make the sector competitive in the region.
An elective congress held in Nyanga last week ushered in a new executive led by CUT Group of hotels General Manager, Mr Innocent Manyera who replaced Mr George Manyumwa.
Mr Manyera said his organisation is hoping to lobby for regulatory reforms especially in the country’s tax and pricing regime for the sector to perform better.
“To that effect, robust consultations among interlinked sub-sectors and government will be adopted to avoid the promulgation of counter-productive policies and regulations,” noted Mr Manyera.
The hospitality industry’s capacity utilisation currently stands at 51 percent.
Also elected in the new HAZ executive is Ms Naome Saizi who took over the first vice president’s post, while Mr Clive Chinoda was elected second vice president.
