The senior women’s netball side, the Gems, are set to leave  for Hong Kong at the weekend where they will take part in a tri-nations netball invitational tournament beginning on the 13th.

The tournament is a world ranking tournament meant to give the players the much needed international exposure and experience.

The invitational tournament will feature Hong Kong, Malaysia and the Zimbabwe’s Gems.

Three young Under 21 players Patricia Muladi, Mercy Mukwadi and Sanale Ncube who have been included in the senior national side could earn their senior caps and given an opportunity to play in an international tournament ahead of the July Junior Netball World Cup in Botswana.

Zimbabwe Netball Association president Letticia Chipandu said they were excited and honoured to have been invited to the tri-nations tournament.

The Hong Kong tournament could prove crucial for the Gems as they seek to improve their world rankings.

The tournament is also a boost for the girl child and national netball teams that have been reeling from lack of sponsorship as it gives the ladies a boost to be more competitive.

The Junior Gems are hoping to hold a preparatory camp ahead of the 2017 world championships to be hosted by Botswana this July.

The tournament comes hot on the heels of yet another tri-nations invitational tournament held recently in Durban, South Africa.
