300 school children from high schools around Harare, Norton, Chitungwiza and Marondera gathered for a workshop organised by the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) in the capital to become pear promoters of free blood donation to their colleges.
The NBSZ is on a massive training programme of school children to become pear educators who will impart knowledge to their colleagues on the importance of donating blood.
In an interviewing during the workshop, NBSZ officials told the ZBC News that it is important that children are encouraged to donate blood which is critical for patients in hospitals.
Some of the school children promised to encourage their friends to donate blood which will go a long way in saving lives especially during accidents.
The students pledged to support government’s initiative of offering free blood to all patients in public health institutions through donating blood.
