hugo chavez.jpgVenezuelan President, Hugo Chavez has criticized NATO’s military invasion of Libya, saying the United States-led military alliance’s bombings are targeting the country’s civilian-residential areas.
In a televised speech, President Chavez encouraged world should pray for the Libyan people.

He said the aim of the United States and its European allies, who participate in the operations, is to intervene and seize Libya and its riches.

Meanwhile, heavy fighting is reported around Libyan leader, Colonel Gaddafi’s compound as rebels say government forces still control part of Tripoli.

The rebels also claim they have captured Colonel Gaddafi’s son Saif Al-Islam.

Washington and NATO say the military campaign is aimed at pressuring Libyan leader, Muammar Gaddafi to step down and to protect civilians.

However, Libyan officials say hundreds of civilians have died in more than 11 000 600 NATO airstrikes over the country.
