A fundraising dinner for the newly merged 2018 National Youth and Paralympic Games was held in the capital on Friday (yesterday) evening.

The games will assume a different format with the Youth Games merged with the participation of Paralympians.

A fundraising dinner held in the capital yesterday attracted guests from the corporate world, NGO sector, government and the sports fraternity in attendance.

Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation Minister Kazembe Kazembe outlined the importance of identifying talent at a young age as he explained the factors which led to the merging of the Youth Games with the Paralympics.

In a speech read by Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Prisca Mupfumira, on behalf of guest of honour, the First Lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa, there was emphasis on the need for the corporate world to lend a helping hand so as to ensure the 2018 National Youth and Paralympic Games are successfully staged.

The National Youth Games were first held back in 2003, with the aim of providing a platform to develop and nurture budding talent with the view of ensuring the country produces top athletes that excel at regional, continental and international level.
