The national cultural week has been launched today at Nyava High School in Bindura amid calls for people to appreciate the country’s diverse cultures.

Pomp and fanfare characterised this year’s launch of the national culture week held at Nyava High School in Bindura.

The event attended by hundreds of people who included traditional chiefs drawn from Mashonaland Central, legislators and civic leaders was punctured with music, dance and poetry.

Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage Minister, Cde Abednico Ncube underscored the importance of safeguarding the country’s rich cultural heritage.

In a speech read on his behalf by Mashonaland Central provincial administrator, Mr Cosmas Chiringa, the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Advocate Martin Dinha said the province feels humbled to be hosting the event.

In his remarks Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson of the Chief’s Council, Senator Clemence Nembire described the increase in the disappearance of cultural values as a cause for concern.

The national cultural week launch which run parallel an arts exhibition was held under theme consolidating cultural identify, diversity and heritage.
