The Zanu PF leadership and supporters in Harare North constituency held Unity Day celebrations in the area through sport where the countryâ€™s citizens were called upon to uphold and cherish the Unity Accord for economic prosperity.
In the spirit of togetherness during Unity Day celebrations in Harare North constituency, the Zanu PF leadership brought together 16 football teams and eight pool teams for a Unity Day tournament.
Organisers of the celebrations Zanu PF Harare Province, Deputy Secretary for Indigenisation, Cde Justice Zvandasara, said the unity fostered by the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe and the late Vice President, Dr Joshua Nkomo should be cherished by the countryâ€™s citizens for economic development.
â€œZimbabweans from all walks of life must cherish the unity brought by the two revolutionary leaders, President Robert Mugabe and the late Vice President, Dr Joshua Nkomo,â€ said Cde Zvandasara.
Zanu PF member, Cde Bonface Mutize said Unity Day celebrations are critical in reminding the countryâ€™s citizens of the importance of unity in development, adding that Zimbabweans should remember that the Unity Accord was signedÂ by Zanu PF and PF Zapu, the two parties that waged a military struggle against colonial oppression.
â€œThis day when we celebrate unity is critical in terms of reminding ZimbabweansÂ that development can only come about if people are united,â€ Cde Mutize said.
The Unity Accord was signed on the 22nd of December 1987 by Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe and the late Vice President and Father Zimbabwe, Dr Joshua Nkomo.
The Accord effectively ended disturbances that had affected Matabeleland and parts of the Midlands province.
