This year’s 17th National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) received a total number of entries of 1 334, giving a 72 percent increase from last year’s entries of 775.
The 17th NAMA edition received entries in the 8 categories which include music, literature, dance, visual, film and television, theatre, media and spoken word.
The highest number of entries was recorded in music with 539 submissions for the 4 awards categories.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) spokesperson Catherine Mthombeni said submissions came from production houses, studios, stables, galleries, organisations, associations and artistes.
NAMA is a platform where the NACZ recognises outstanding achievements within the creative sector.
The awards are a meant to encourage creativity and excellence in the quality of the arts.
