Local artists and other stakeholders in the arts industry who excelled in their various fields were honored at the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) ceremony held in the capital on Saturday.
The 9th edition of the national arts merit awards NAMA saw artists and groups who excelled in various art genres get accolades for their hard work.Josphat Somanje won the outstanding song of the year with his handibvume hit while, Sulumani Chimbetu took the outstanding musician award for the year. Emerging group Soul Born scooped the outstanding music video while the outstanding choral group award went to Mabasa Avatumwa.
In the literary arts, David Mungoshi scooped the outstanding fiction book with his book â€˜the fading sunâ€™ while Ignatius Mabasa scooped the outstanding chilrdrenâ€™s book for his book â€˜the man, shaggy, leopard and the jackalâ€™.
Others who received awards on the night include dominic benhura for outstanding mix of media work, zbcâ€™s hazvinei sakarombe who took two awards for outstanding radio reporter and a peopleâ€™s choice award for outstanding artist while terrence mapurisana scooped outsanding arts reporter electronic.

Speaking at the hand over ceremony, the guest of honor, ZBHâ€™s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Happison Muchechetere hailed artists for the good work they are doing adding that the arts industry must be seriously recognised as they are crucial in countryâ€™s economic turn around and cultural preservation.
Entertainment was provided by various local groups including amavitikazi,culture warriors, fungisai mashavave, Culture spears from Botswana among others.
