tuberculosis.jpgThe government says the National AIDS Council (NAC) should channel funds from the AIDS levy towards tuberculosis programmes.

The Deputy Director in the AIDS and Tuberculosis Unit in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, Dr Charles Sandy said TB and HIV are interrelated therefore funds should be shared accordingly.

“There is an increase in TB cases amongst people living with HIV as of recent and efforts to control its spread should be taken,” Dr Sandy said.

He said the government has acquired TB detecting machines, which can bring results within 2 hours and can also detect multi-drug resistant TB.

Dr Sandy added that the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare is also working on a TB policy on prisoners in a bid to address the spread of the infectious disease in cells.
