The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS)’ Anju farm got a boost in  preparations for this year’s agricultural season after the National AIDS Council (NAC) donated a consignment of fertiliser and 80kgs of seed maize worth thousands of dollars.

NAC Vice Chairperson, Mrs Beatrice Tonhodzayi said: “It is incumbent upon us to partner with the ZPCS considering that it houses a number of inmates who are vulnerable to the HIV and AIDS pandemic.”

ZPCS Deputy Officer Commanding Matabeleland North Province, Chief Superintendent Greenfield Bulala appealed for improved water supplies through the drilling of more boreholes at the farm.

Anju farm prison covers around 140 hectares, but according to prison officials, they are only putting 90 hectares under crop production owing to shortages of water.

Several chiefs from Matabeleland North Province were also presented with bags of maize that were harvested from last season for the Isiphala Senkosi purposes in the arrangement between Anju prison and NAC.
