douglas mwonzora 31-10-10.jpgMDC-T Member of the House of Assembly and for Nyanga North and lawyer, Mr Douglas Mwonzora’s appeal against conviction and sentence after being slapped with an effective 6 months imprisonment in 2003 has been deferred to this Thursday.

Mwonzora, who is also the COPAC Co-Chairperson, was convicted by a Masvingo Magistrate over charges of attempting to bribe detective constable Chiwa with ZW$3000 so that the police officer would unlawfully release from lawful custody the lawyer’s client, Paul Mavhima.

Mavhima had been arrested on charges of theft of a motor vehicle.

Mwonzora who was sentenced to 1 year imprisonment, in which 6 months were wholly suspended for 5 years on condition that he would not commit a similar offence within the same period, immediately appealed against both conviction and sentence.

The High Court deferred the hearing to this Thursday.

Justice Yunar Omerjee and Justice Musakwa will be presiding over the appeal.
