The erratic rainfall patterns experienced in Mwenezi during the 2018/2019 summer cropping season has adversely affected livestock with farmers now desperate for supplementary feeding.

Mwenezi district carries the bulk of Masvingo’s cattle herd.

The issue of lack of pastures was topical at a stakeholders meeting held in the district, with farmers raising a red flag on the need to urgently introduce supplementary feeding for livestock.

“Mvura haina kunaya, farmers need urgent supplementary feeding. (There was no rainfall….) Dipping chemicals are in short supply and we are going to find a way of buying the chemicals for cattle dipping,” said one of the farmers.

Mwenezi West legislator Cde Priscilla Zindari Moyo bemoaned the human and wildlife conflict in some areas within her constituency.

Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Cde Ezra Chadzamira revealed that the stakeholders meetings which are being held in the province allow him to appreciate the challenges affecting the province.

Cde Chadzamira said such meetings will continue to be held on a regular basis as Masvingo seeks to grow its economy.
