muvengwa.jpgThe late Nevernay Chinyanga popularly known as “Muwengwa” who passed away on Friday has been described by a cross-section of Zimbabweans as an arts icon whose memory will be treasured forever in people’s minds.

Muvengwa passed away on Saturday evening at Natal Spruit Hospital in South Africa after a long battle with pneumonia.

Chinyanga starred in local soaps Studio 263 and Tiriparwendo. His wife on the set Pretty Xaba who played the role Naka Sithabile said Muwengwa’s death is hard to accept.

Besides acting Muwengwa was also a musician with hits such as Matinetsa and Mhashu Yemurwere.

With the body expected in the country tomorrow and burial arrangements set for Madyagawawa village in Uzumba, a cloud of sadness is set to engulf not only Mashonaland East Province but the whole country.

But the lasting memory of Nevernay Chinyanga will be written upon the hearts of every Zimbabwean.

Meanwhile National Arts Council Director Elvis Mari has promised that the arts body will give Muwengwa a well deserved send off.
