Livelihoods of thousands of people in the Murongwe community of Dande Mashonaland Central continue to be improved thanks to the Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Air Marshal Perrance Shiri’s vision.

This is the view shared by many corporates who over the past six years have been contributing towards transforming the lives of the Murongwe community.

Yesterday night saw a convergence of likeminded corporates and individuals meeting at Zimbali Gardens in the capital where they wined and dined taking stock of progress made in realising Air Marshal Shiri’s vision of transforming the Murongwe community to have world class learning and medical facilities.

Guest of honour at the fundraising dinner, Engineer Toendepi Retias Muganyi urged corporates not to lose their human face owing to the temporary economic challenge and to continue supporting a worthy cause which is anchored on uplifting the girl child.

Chairperson of the Commander AFZ charity fund hailed the patron of the fund for initiating a dream which has resulted in the upliftment of lives of the marginalised through the charity fund.

The well organised event was punctuated by musical performances from the AFZ band and a guest performance from the Dande born Commander AFZ charity fund ambassador, Dr Oliver Mtukudzi.

Since its inception 7 years ago from derelict mud and pole structures the Commander AFZ charity fund, a partnership between Air Marshal Shiri and the corporate world has resulted in the construction of a state of the art ECD, primary school and a clinic.

The fund’s Murongwe project which is the flagship of charity initiatives was officially opened by President Robert Mugabe in October last year after the completion of a primary school and a clinic.

Construction work on the secondary school have commenced following which a vocational training centre will be constructed subject to the assistance of corporates and well wishers.
