Consumers have accused municipal authorities for levying charges that are not in line with service delivery.
Speaking to the Voice of Zimbabwe, the Executive Director of the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe, Mrs. Rosemary Siyachitema said there is a need for councils to improve on service delivery especially in the area of refuse collection, street lighting and maintenance of roads.
She also accused the local authorities of not consulting residents when they are compiling the budget leading to residents failing to pay some of the charges levied.
“Local authorities are abusing taxpayer’s money by undertaking unnecessary foreign trips and awarding themselves hefty allowances,” said Siyachitema.
She said service delivery has remained compromised due to the poor systems of revenue collection and lack of transparency in many municipal authorities.
