Bee keeping, one of community reliance projects happens to have made a contribution to rural livelihoods as members of Mukarakate village in Mrewa district have established a thriving bee keeping project in their area.

With limited income generating projects in most rural areas, life can be hard for some rural folks.

As a self sustenance initiative, members of the Mukararate community have come up with a successful bee keeping projects that have managed to sustain their lives.

At a time when most small scale farm yields are staggering under the effects of drought, beekeeping has become a primary source of livelihood for Berrington Zemura and many other villagers in Mukarakate.

Bee keeping can be an incentive to preserve natural vegetation within communities since the apiary should have trees to provide shade to the bee hives as well as trees to provide nectar and pollen.
