Legendary chimurenga music icon Thomas Tafirenyika ‘Mukanya’ Mapfumo who is in the country for the Big Bira concert scheduled for the 28th of this month has made a passionate plea for Zimbabweans to unite under the new dispensation and work towards economic recovery.

Speaking at an extraordinary media briefing that was held in the capital this Friday, Mukanya known as the Lion of Zimbabwe said it is critical that Zimbabweans unite to build our economy.

Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi expressed his happiness over their reunion with the iconic Chimurenga music giant at the Big Bira concert and added that they will continue to promote young musicians to ensure the growth of the music industry.

Mukanya added he is willing to promote young musicians and is already working with a number of young musicians on his new album ‘Chauya Chauya’, including Rati Dangarembwa from Bulawayo and Sulumane Chimbetu among others.

Andy Muridzo, Sulumani Chimbetu and Garry Tight expressed their gratitude as they will share the stage with the two legends.

Music has always been instrumental in shaping society’s identity and uniting people and as such music guru Thomas Mapfumo’s music played a significant role in Zimbabwe’s Chimurenga liberation struggle.
