Reflections on the life of the late national hero Retired General Solomon Mujuru who has been hailed as a great military strategist before and after independence have been revisited.
The late commander of commanders has been hailed for his sterling contributions during the liberation struggle and after independence.
In the two dispensations, he led armies in a manner that earned him accolades for his military acumen.
Cde Oppah Muchinguri, a liberation fighter says the late General Mujuru was a skilled military strategist in a manner that inspired confidence from the liberation war troops that he was leading.
Cde Muchinguri recalled that the commander of commanders’ military brilliance saw him taking off to the battlefront with the troops that he led by example.
Colonel Tshinga Dube says although he did not operate with Cde Mujuru during the war, the two worked closely together at independence, when the commander of commanders was tasked with leading the process of integrating ZIPRA, ZANLA and Rhodesian Forces into a single entity.
Colonel Dube says through General Mujuru’s acumen the nation managed a successful integration that has gone down in history as an example to many nations.
The late Retired General Mujuru died in a fire at his Beatrice Farm early Tuesday morning and will be laid to rest at the National Heroes Acre this Saturday.
