The people of Mtoko have expressed concern over people who are holding onto gold and granite claims without any mining activities.

Zanu PF provincial political commissar Cde Hebert Shumbamhini who spoke on behalf of the people of Mtoko at an interdistrict meeting at Chikondoma Stadium said the government should put a stop to the system of holding onto mineral claims for speculative purposes by some individuals.

In response, Mashonaland East Zanu PF provincial chairman Cde Joel Biggie Matiza said the party will engage the government to ensure people do not hold onto claims.

Mtoko district has gold and granite making it one of the richest districts in the province in terms of natural resources although that has not transformed into any meaningful development.
