Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri says there is need to expedite the connection of Saparanyambuya dam to the Mtawatatwa growth point water system to avoid water shortages like last year.

Addressing stakeholders at a provincial stakeholders meeting in Murewa, Retired Brigadier General Mutinhiri expressed concern over failure to utilise water at Saparanyambuya dam for the benefit of Mtawatawa growth point which was last year hit by massive water shortages after the drying up of Chikono dam.

Saparanyambuya dam which is supposed to be the main source of water for Mtawatawa growth point has been lying idle for the past 15 years.

The stakeholders meeting was attended by the Zanu PF provincial leadership, legislators, traditional leaders and heads of government departments as well as parastatals.
