As the 2017-2018 agricultural season approaches, Mt Pleasant legislator, Cde Jason Pasadi has started distributing maize seed to urban farmers in his constituency.

Agriculture in Zimbabwe is the backbone of the economy and food security for the majority of the populace.

Proper implementation of urban agriculture helps alleviate poverty and provide food security for the urban community.

Beneficiaries of the seed said this will help improve household food security.

Urban agriculture clearly seeks to improve food security through providing the urban poor with alternatives for purchased food.

Last season government rolled out the command agriculture scheme that has since realised its intended purpose of ensuring food self-sufficiency.
