The Midlands State University (MSU) wrote its own piece of history after its debate team affectionately known as the Great Debaters were crowned the Pan-African Universities Debate Championship (PAUDC) champions to become the first-ever Zimbabwean team to land the continental title.

The 10th edition of the continental debate showcase was held at the University of Buea in Cameroon where more than 60 teams from 12 African countries competed.

The Great Debaters comprising of Minehle Nzana and Tanaka Chitongo distinguished themselves well, displaying exceptional debate and intellectual prowess to win the competition, with Nzana capping off the historic achievement by scooping the Best Country Speaker award for Zimbabwe.

The competition ran from the 7th to 15th of this month under the theme, ‘Debate, the 21st Century Alternative to Violence’.
