It was all smiles at the Mpilo Central Hospital paediatric ward as children received an assortment of goods from Kidzcan, an organisation that assists children with cancer.

The goodies as a precursor to fundraising events set for August.

In handing over the donation at the facility that houses 150 children, Kidzcan executive director, Dr Ntombi Muchuchuti called for the decentralisation of children centred chemotherapy services to all parts of the country as the majority could not afford to travel to the major cities.

Mpilo Hospital’s acting health promotion officer, Mr Ozias Ndlovu paid tribute to Kidzcan for the gesture and indicated that they were expecting their relationship with to continue.

One of the beneficiaries is Chilongezyo Munenge from Binga who has a stage 4 wilms tumor, a condition that affects the kidneys.

Chilongezyo’s mother, Miss Shonie Ndlovu echoed the plea of many from outlying areas, that of inability to fund their movement to the big cities in search for medication.

As a way of raising funds to meet the needs of such patients, Kidzcan is set to host a sporting day and a fashion design expo on the 5th of August in Bulawayo that will run under the theme, “Fashion Fights Cancer”.
