The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) says motorists must acquaint themselves with the upgraded highway code as the country strives to reduce road carnage.
The call by the TSCZ comes at a time when government has launched an upgraded highway code which has harmonised regional road signs.
TSCZ director operations Mr Proctor Utete said the driving public must understand the highway code which is critical in reducing road carnage.
The harmonisation of road signs is one of the strategies used by the SADC region in order to achieve the United Nations set target of reducing carnage on the world’s roads by 50 percent.
The upgraded highway code came into being after wide consultations from stakeholders in the transport business to ensure huge buy-in to harmonise road signs, signals and traffic control devices.
