Morocco and Egypt have crashed out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup after the former lost their second group match 1-nil to Portugal, while Uruguay’s 1-nil win over Saudi Arabia was enough to send the Pharaohs home.

Morocco put a spirited performance but a Cristiano Ronaldo header made the difference.

Morocco lost to Iran in their first match, conceding the only goal of the match through an injury time own goal, and today’s match was sealed as early as the 4th minute.

Morocco’s last group match is against 2010 world champions, Spain, and even a win will not be enough for the African team to reach the knock out stages.

Portugal currently lead Group B with 4 points but could be overtaken by whoever wins between Spain and Iran later tonight.

Another African team, Egypt, who lost 3-1 to hosts, Russia last night, were eliminated after Uruguay beat Saudi Arabia 1-nil in today’s match.

Russia and Uruguay now have 6 points each, while Egypt and Saudi Arabia are out even before their final group match against each other.
