Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango

Montrose High and Mpumelelo Primary Schools are this year’s recipients of the Secretary’s Bell merit award for Bulawayo Province.

The award is the highest honour conferred to schools that go out of their way in conforming to set standards in academic and sporting activities by the relevant ministry.

For their achievement,  the schools were awarded a plaque in lieu of the Secretary’s Bell and FBC Bank donated US$10 000 worth of ICT equipment which consisted of 45 laptops for pupils, a standard projector, interactive board device and a white board for each school.

In her remarks during a colorful ceremony held at Montrose High, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Dr Sylvia Utete Masango said the hard work by the team at Montrose has seen them getting the prize 45 years after its construction.

Montrose High School headmistress, Mrs Glenis Nkomo appealed for assistance in the construction of accommodation for administrative staff at the institution.

The prestigious awards are presented to schools that outshine others in conforming to set standards and this year the adjudication was done by a committee at national level, meaning the same level benchmarks were applied across the country for standardisation.
