Marondera hospital is running a pilot project for maternity wards, a concept that is set to transform the health sector in Zimbabwe.

The development comes as the government gears up to transforming the health sector.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care has partnered with other non-governmental organisations in establishing a model maternity ward at Marondera hospital.

The hospital has eight private wards which appear to be offering high class standards.

Ministry of Health and Child Care Director Family Health Dr Benard Madzima says the success of the pilot project will see it being implemented in other hospitals across the country.

Some corporates have adopted wards in government institutions and some have gone further to renovate and refurbish the adopted wards.

This was done to ease pressure on government after realisation that the budgetary allocation was below the Abuja Declaration threshold which stipulates that health sector must be allocated 15 percent of the total budget.
