The Midlands Province continues to fight in order to contain the foot and mouth disease in some of its districts.
Speaking to the ZBC News during his recent tour of dairy farms, the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development – Livestock, Cde Paddy Zhanda expressed concern over the foot and mouth disease that is still being reported in Gokwe and some parts of Mberengwa.
He said failure to contain the disease has potential to disrupt the country’s beef export.
Midlands Minister of State, Cde Jason Machaya said the province is now working with developmental partners to try and contain the disease which he said is threatening the livelihoods of rural communities in affected areas.
For the past year, the Midlands Veterinary Services Department has been struggling to contain the foot and mouth disease, forcing it to suspend cattle trade and movement in the affected areas.
