A mentally unstable man axed his mother to death in Gutu recently.

Masvingo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident and said on 23rd of October 2018, Evelyn Teya (64) from Manzange village under Chief Makore, got into a room where her son Moses Mungwini (21) was sleeping.

Teya’s daughter-in-law, Esther Muvengi (24) heard Teya screaming for help a few minutes after she had entered the room and she peeped through the window and saw Moses chasing his mother with an axe.

Teya fell on the ground and Moses axed her four times on the head and he fled the scene.

Muvengi then called Teya’s uncle, Tirivanhu Chigadze (64) who resides in the same village.

Teya was found lying in a pool of blood with injuries on her head and he was taken to Cheshuro Clinic.

She was pronounced dead upon arrival at the clinic and her body was taken to Gutu Mission Hospital for post mortem.

The matter was reported to the police who managed to find Mungwini and arrested him.
