The two MDC formations have been castigated for their absence at the exhumations of remains that have been recovered in Mt Darwin in which an estimated 1000 people were brutally butchered and dumped in a disused mine shaft by Rhodesian forces.
The Mt Darwin Massacre carried out by the Rhodesian Forces has been equated to the Nazi regime led by Adolph Hitler’s holocaust. The Smith regime’s atrocities have drawn anger from most Zimbabweans but more so the absence of the two MDC formations who are in the inclusive government.
ZANU-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Rugare Gumbo told ZBC News in a telephone interview that the absence of the two formations from the exhumation site is not surprising considering their association with the former Rhodesians and the West.
MDC Deputy Spokesperson Mr. Kurauone Chihwayi told ZBC News that his party perceives the exhumation as partisan in a suggestion that they are a ZANU-PF matter.
Meanwhile ZANU-PF Harare South House of Assembly Member Cde Hubert Nyanhongo told members of his constituency to stand up and condemn the two MDC’s for not being part of the exhumation exercises which have been described as a very important national initiative.
The recovery of the remains of over 500 victims which are part of an estimated 1000 dumped in a mine shaft in Ruya Village Mt Darwin reveals the Rhodesian forces’ acts of genocide and more are expected to be exhumed by the Fallen heroes of Zimbabwe Trust led by Cde George Rutanhire.
