According to information coming through MDC-T, co-Chairperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora instructed MDC-T representatives in Copac to stop attending the thematic committee meetings until the matter has been resolved.
Zanu PF co-Chairperson, Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana, has expressed surprise at the withdrawal of the MDC-T from Copac after the two sides worked as a team and approved the methodologies being used by the thematic committees.
He said, “We had agreed that we adopt these methodologies, but on Monday Mwonzora started saying the methodologies are wrong and this comes after a week or so of workshops and launching of the thematic committees.”
He said in the meantime, Zanu PF, MDC and civil society will continue with the thematic committee meetings.
An emergency select committee meeting will be convened this Wednesday afternoon to look into the matter.
If that fails to come up with a solution, the matter will be taken to the management committee which comprises GPA negotiators from the three parties.
The thematic committees had registered progress by completing analysing data from Mashonaland West and Matabeleland North and were working in Manicaland.
This is not the first time the MDC-T has stalled progress in the constitution-making process as it has employed delaying tactics in the past.
Previously, the party started demanding guidelines after the uploading stage with its co-Chairperson, Mr Mwonzora claiming it was done while he was detention.
