town house 04-08-10.jpgGovernment says events unfolding in most MDC-T dominated local authorities where corruption and underhand dealings are rampant, are a clear demonstration to the electorate that the party is not fit to govern.

Some councillors having been fired and suspended for abuse of council resources, house grabbing scams as well as corrupt tendencies, and analysts say the clear signal to the electorate is that ‘immature people’ elected into councils in March 2008 are ignorant of most governance issues.

However, the firing of the councillors has irked the Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Mr Sessel Zvidzai, who has openly criticised his Minister, Dr Chombo, for taking such actions.

Mashonaland Central Governor and Resident Minister, Advocate Martin Dinha says Mr Zvidzai has erred by supporting the councillors, who were caught on the wrong side of the law, adding that Zimbabweans should learn a lesson about the type of leaders they elect into office.

“We are worried about the recent development in which Mr Zvidzai is fighting Dr Chombo over the firing of corrupt councillors. Why should someone who has a record in local government support corrupt activities? Advocate Dinha asked.

Government fired Bindura Mayor, Mr Tinashe Madamombe and Councillor Christopher Mazembe for corruption charges.

In Harare, two MDC-T councillors; Warship Dumba and Casper Takura and a Zanu PF Councillor, Clever Manhombo were also fired on allegations of corruption and dishonest conduct.

Observers are questioning why the MDC-T is angry over the dismissal of corrupt councillors, saying a people driven party should not condone corruption.
