Chinhoyi town residents have criticised the MDC led council for alleged corrupt and unprofessional conduct at the expense of service delivery, a situation which they say has negatively affected the image of the town.
Chinhoyi, which is Mashonaland West provincial capital, continue to face health hazards as the council is failing to regularly collect refuse and dealing with burst sewer pipes.
The residents have since blamed the MDC councilors for lack of vision and leadership skills.
Several Chinhoyi urban residents, who attended the recently held Zanu PF Ward 4 meeting at Chengetani Old People’s Home say apart from awarding council workers poor salaries, the councilors have been on a looting spree awarding themselves hefty allowances.
Guest of honour at the meeting, businessman and former Mashonaland West Provincial Chairman, Cde Philip Chiyangwa urged those gathered at the meeting not to repeat the mistake they made during the 2008 elections, given the current failure and mismanagement by the MDC councilors.
“It is a shame that councilors who do not have vision were put into office in 2008. So when we go for polls this time around, we have to be careful about our choices,” he said.
Old people from Chengetanai Old People’s Home and other residents received groceries donated by Cde Chiyangwa.
The meeting was attended by several members of the Zanu PF provincial leadership, who included Central Committee Member, Cde Prisca Mupfumira as well as Zanu PF Chinhoyi Province Women’s League Secretary for Administration, Cde Jenniffer Mhlanga.
Also present at the meeting was Makonde legislator, Cde Ray Kapeza, representatives of the Chinhoyi Empowerment Forum and members of the Chinhoyi Home Indusries, among others.
