Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has been urged to display political maturity and lead by example by urging his supporters to graciously accept defeat.
Political and civic society leaders have admonished Advocate Chamisa to graciously accept the results of the recently held harmonised elections which saw the Zanu PF party and its leader President-elect Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa emerging as winners.
Temba Mliswa who emerged victorious in the Norton constituency parliamentary elections as an independent candidate said the nation needs to move forward and it is important for the MDC Alliance to lead by example in accepting the results which reflected the will of the people.
On the issue of the credibility of the elections, Mliswa said that it is not surprising to get these adverse reports from the EU and other Western observers as they have maintained such a narrative for a long time.
Mr Gabriel Chaibva of the Free and Fair Foundation, who predicted a Zanu PF win in the plebiscite said Advocate Chamisa’s stance to refuse to acknowledge the election result does not come as a surprise.
Various election observer missions praised Zimbabwe for having made history in its election processes as they were largely peaceful, free and fair despite acts of sponsored violence which led to the death of six people on Wednesday.
