constituency mberengwaaa.jpgPeople in Chief Mposi’s area in Mberengwa have appealed for food assistance from the government following a drought that has hit the area.

A survey carried out by ZBC News in Chief Mposi Area and other parts of Mberengwa shows that most crops are a complete right off.

By February, some of the people had realised that the farming season had turned into a disaster and once they received some rains, they started planting again, but with the erratic rainfall patterns, there is very little hope that this crop will reach maturity stage.

Even the grain reserves under the Zunde Ramambo are empty and Chief Fundisayi Tseyisi Mposi said if government does not quickly intervene, the situation will turn tragic.

The villagers are also clueless and their only hope is the government to provide food assistance.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Mberengwa North constituency Mr. Jabulani Mangena said he has so far managed to source 30 tonnes of maize to feed those families in dire need.

Drought has affected a number of areas and the government is currently in the process of assessing the crop situation in the country.

Provinces such as Masvingo, Manicaland, Matabeleland North and South and the Midlands province have been seriously affected.
