zim maize22.jpgThe Zanu PF leadership in the Midlands province has appealed to government to urgently provide food aid to Mberengwa district following an unfavourable 2010-2011 agricultural season.

Speaking on the sidelines of a Zanu PF district coordinating conference, which was held at Mataga Growth Point, the Zanu PF district chairman for Mberengwa, Cde Kudakwashe Hove said hunger is looming in Mberengwa.

During the 2010-2011 agricultural season, Mberengwa realised a paltry 9 000 tonnes of maize, against a target of 38 000 tonnes and left the district with a 23 000 tonne deficit.

Mberengwa Rural District Council chairman, Cde Tafireyi Mhaka implored on the government to move with speed to save the district.

Mberengwa West member of the House of Assembly, who is also the Zanu PF Chief Whip, Cde Joram Gumbo said Mberengwa district requires more dams for irrigation.
