There was a clash of the titans as Manicaland Basketball Association (MBA) teams held matches to prepare for the season’s open tournament at Mutare Boys High School.

MBA president Tonderai Shasha said all the teams present are in the Manicaland Basketball League (MBL) and that all are ready for these preparatory matches.

“These are just traditional matches we hold to prepare for our season opening tournaments. We want the teams to be well prepared and also to see if they are in form for the season. Today there are 7 male teams and 3 female teams,” he said.

However, Shasha bemoaned lack of funding to smoothly run the league calling on the corporate world to chip in with some financial assistance.

“Our biggest challenge has been funding as we are using our own funds and we hope the corporate world can render us some help and sponsor us. Right now we are using Mutare Boys High School basketball courts because the courts we were using for our tournaments at Raylton Club have been converted to burn outs arenas for the past 4 years,” he said.

The final matches between the top four teams will be held on Saturday the 29th of this month.
