Evan Mawarire has been granted US$2 000 bail by the High Court.
In granting bail, High Court judge Tawanda Chitapi said he is persuaded on the facts and circumstances of the case and the applicant that the interest of justice will be served by the admission to bail on stringent conditions.
As part of bail conditions, Mawarire is to deposit the sum of US$2 000 with the clerk of court, reports at Avondale police station thrice a week – on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between the hours 6am-6pm.
He is also to reside at House Number 19 Monmouth Close, Avondale, Harare, until the matter is finalised, surrenders his passport to the clerk of court and shall not interfere with state witnesses and investigations.
Mawarire, who was represented by Advocate Tonderai Bhatasara, was arrested on 17 January this month accused of subverting a constitutional government and inciting protests in which millions of dollars worth of property was lost in a looting spree and property damage orchestrated by hooligans.
