Matabeleland South Province will tomorrow (Wednesday) host an investment conference which seeks to encourage the participation of the private sector in the development of the province.
Despite Matabeleland South being among the richest provinces in the country in terms of mineral resources such as gold and diamonds, it has very little to show for it as its wealth has remained unexploited.
Speaking to the ZBC News, the Minister of State for Matabeleland South, Cde Abednico Ncube said the investment conference provides a platform to interrogate the potential of the province as an investment destination.
“The main purpose of the meeting is to encourage private sector investment in areas of rural economic development and natural resources conservation. The cattle ranching region is keen to see the revival of ZIMCAN which used to be country’s leading beef processing and canning factory. In the area of mining, investment in heavy engineering, processing and supply of accessories will help in the creation of wealth and jobs for the locals,” he said.
The one day conference will be held at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic College in Gwanda and will see the business and investment community discussing emerging trends, business opportunities and capital models.
Industry representatives, financial institutions, government officials and traditional leaders, among others, are expected to attend.
