The 60th edition of the Matabeleland South Agricultural Show has kicked off in Gwanda with the annual exhibition recording an increase in participants as compared to last year.

Although the agricultural  show kicked off on a low note this Thursday with some exhibitors still putting final touches to their stands, the event organisers say they are happy that the number of exhibitors has increased from 86 to 107 this year.

In an interview with the ZBC News, president of the Matabeleland South Agricultural Show George Chipengo said  the success of the  2016 /2017 farming season has also seen commercial and communal farmers showcasing quality agricultural produce, while livestock exhibitions and cattle sales that were suspended last year owing to an outbreak of foot and mouth, have returned.

Mr Chipengo says exhibitors were encouraged to use the show to promote their products and services to the locals while farmers shared knowledge and skills to increase food production.

The show that has attracted exhibitors from all the seven districts is running under the theme:  ‘Economic Transformation Through Sustainable Innovations’, will be officially opened this Saturday.

Prominent artist Madlela Sikhobokhobo known for his song Ngamnanka Usamamo among others will entertain people at this year’s show.
