The speedy completion of cases brought before the Masvingo High Court is proof that the court which became operational in September 2016 is now well established.
This was said by Judge President, Justice George Chiweshe during the official opening of the 2018 legal year at the Masvingo High Court.
Last year, Masvingo High Court registered a significant rise in the number of civil and criminal cases.
Of the 274 civil cases received, 205 were completed, while 778 of the 968 criminal cases that were received were also completed.
Justice Chiweshe said these statistics indicate that the Masvingo High Court is now well established.
Justice Chiweshe also noted that the unique Operation Restore Legacy, led by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, has opened up the democratic space and enhanced the rule of law in the country.
As the justice sector works on its quest to decentralise the operations of the High Court, another permanent station is expected to be opened in Mutare in the course of 2018.
The judge president said depending on the availability of resources, further provincial structures will be opened across the country.
