The Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs, Cde Shuvai Mahofa has launched the Provincial Command Fisheries Programme at Tokwe Mukosi dam.

The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority has supplied the second batch of Nile bream fingerlings that will form the seed for other dams in the province.

Speaking during handover ceremony, the authority’s Acting Director General, Mr Geoffrey Matipano said the target is to stock the dam with 1,5 million fingerlings.

Cde Shuvai Mahofa highlighted that Tokwe Mukosi dam will be used as a fish production centre for Masvingo province.

“The off springs from these fingerlings will be used for stocking other dams in the province.

This dam will provide enormous opportunities such easy access to fish, improvement of livelihoods and employment opportunities for the people in Masvingo province,” she said.

The main targeted beneficiaries are women, youths, orphans, the disabled and other disadvantaged groups who will be organised into groupings such as cooperatives.
