Zimbabwe is set to become the biggest manufacturer of ceramic tiles in the region following the completion of a ceramic tile plant in Norton, Mashonaland West province.
Government officials and the Zanu PF provincial leadership today toured the plant, which is set to become one of the biggest in the region.
The Minister of Industry and Commerce, Cde Nqobizitha Ndlovu, who led the tour of Sunny Yi Feng Tiles, said the US$30 million investment is testimony that the government’s economic reform policies are bearing fruit.
The Minister of State for Mashonaland West province, Cde Mary Mliswa is delighted at the prospect of having an investment that will grow the province’s gross domestic product (GDP).
The Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Hon Ziyambi Ziyambi, who was also part of the delegation, said this investment can be traced to the Zanu PF’s manifesto which preached about investment promotion.
Manager of Sunny Yi Feng Tiles, William Gung revealed they expect to employ local people to enhance skills transfer.
The factory was constructed in just under one month and 25 percent of production will be for the local market and the rest for export.
