Several schools from across Mashonaland West Province took part in the Bob @93 Sports Festival held at Kutama College this weekend.

The festival is in honour of President Robert Mugabe.

The Bob @93 Sports Festival featured school teams drawn from a number of districts from Mashonaland West which competed in seven sport codes.

Chairman of the Bob Sports Festival, Mathias Zhakata said so far this year, 4 provinces have hosted the event which began in 2012 to celebrate the life of the President and to teach the youth to appreciate their heritage and have a sense of patriotism.

Zhakata said from the festivals some best performing athletes will be chosen to further pursue their sporting career in Europe on scholarships.

Minister of State for Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs Cde Faber Chidarikire said through such activities, society will be able to take youths away from anti social and destructive behaviour.

The Education Ministry feels that the Bob Sports Festival resonate well with the sector’s new curriculum which now considers sport as an aspect of learning on the part of students.
