The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) has launched the Mashonaland East Provincial Peace Committee, with high hopes that the initiative will create harmony and sustainable peace.

Mashonaland East Minister of State, Cde Appolonia Munzverengwi welcomed the committee, saying it was a right move towards achieving sustainable and lasting peace.

“I am impressed by the inclusivity in this committee, where all sectors are represented and I hope that this committee will help us as a province to have lasting peace,” she said.

NPRC Chairperson, Retired Justice Sello Nare said the country is undergoing a critical political and economic transition, with a potential to transform the country’s fortunes.

“Zimbabwe is undergoing a critical political and economic transition set to transform the country towards sustainable development,” he said.

The provincial chapter elected academic, Dr Sheila Rugonye and youth activist, Emmanuel Manyati will deputise Mashonaland East NPRC Commissioner, Dr Jeffrey Chada.
