At least 480 cases of gender based violence (GBV) are reported annually in Mashonaland Central province which calls for a paradigm shift by communities.
The statistics of gender based violence cases were revealed at the provincial commemorations of 16 days of activism against gender based violence in the province.
Addressing stakeholders in the province, Mashonaland Central Minister of State Advocate Martin Dinha said there is need for the participation of communities in the fight against gender based violence.
Campaigns against gender based violence are meant to raise awareness as a human rights issue, strengthen local work around gender based violence, to provide a forum for sharing progress, strategies and challenges in ending gender based violence.
The commemorations were held under the theme: ‘From Peace In The Home To Peace In The World Creating A Safe Pace For Women And Girls’.
