Communities in Mashonaland Central Province are putting in place various response initiatives to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.
The ZBC News crew witnessed a number of programmes in districts such as Shamva, Mt Darwin and Centenary during a National AIDS Council media tour of the province.
Notable initiatives include the Sister-to-Sister and Parent-to-Child communication programmes.
Zimbabwe AIDS Prevention and Support (ZAPSO) programmes officer for Muzarabani district Gondai Dekeza said they work with mentors from the same communities in implementing such projects.
School children from various institutions visited by the ZBC such as those at Kandeya Secondary School in Mt Darwin gave testimonies on how the Sister-to-Sister programme has helped them with knowledge on HIV and AIDS and sexual reproductive health issues among other issues.
Mt Darwin district AIDS coordinator Veronica Nyamuboka Katsande said follow up sessions with those in the Sister-to-Sister programmes are also held.
Youth friendly centres in the province are also an important tool in giving youths edutainment.
