Farmers in ward 2 of Marondera rural district council who benefitted from the presidential input support programme are expecting a bumper harvest and believe the programme is the best answer to food security.
In ensuring that farmers who benefitted from the presidential input support programme did not abuse the inputs, ward 2 Councilor, Taurai Chikukwa would tour fields to assess the level of production.
She was not disappointed as the farmers fully utilised the inputs and are all expecting a bumper harvest.
“I was very much impressed by the level of production at these farms which shows that the farmers did not abuse the inputs,” she said.
The farmers, led by Ms Fortunate Chikukwa of Miyando farm, thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for the inputs which they said helped them to be self reliant.
A total of 860 households benefitted from the presidential input support scheme in ward 2 as they received maize seed, fertiliser, butternut seed and soya beans.
